“Living the Dream” (Week 2 Sermon)

In scripture we find that Living the dream and having the “Good Life” is only found by living in God, through Jesus.  It is a life of service and commitment to celebrate the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross.  God has a specific plan for each of us to walk out.  Living the Dream is a result of crushing our dreams and living out the life that God promises to go beyond our wildest dreams.

Go!

This month we officially launch our “Go” campaign at Awestruck Church.  God called us to go, and it is our responsibility to be His witnesses.  All month we are focusing on God’s call to make an impact on the World, our City, and our Community.  This is just the beginning.

How can you help?  I’m glad you asked!  We will be collecting supplies like paper towels, toilet paper (a necessity), toiletries, small amount gift cards, and linens to support World Relief and local shelters for women/homeless.  You can also give of your money and time at any of these ministries.  Also, if you drink coffee you can start buying it here:  www.DrinkCoffeeDoGood.com.  If you attend Awestruck, we need your house for one of our summer House Parties.  All you have to do is clean up and invite your neighbors…we’ll provide everything else.

There will be numerous opportunities for you to “Go” as we begin partnerships with other organizations and talk about how to impact your community.  Let’s start living out our faith and be a witness to all that Jesus has done in our life.  Go!

1.  There’s this one couple that always works hard to get talked about on the Download…It’s not always pleasant.  🙂  This week I received one of the most encouraging emails in 10 years of ministry from them!  I am proud of you guys and proud of Awestruck church for being a place that God is doing huge things.

2.  My family joined me on stage yesterday and of course my kids stole the show!  That’s why I sent them back to the nursery very quickly.

3.  Me and Micah had matching shirts and they were sweet!  Adyson sang an impromptu version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (Well….for her it was “Tinkle, Tinkle ittle start)

4.  In the middle of my message I had an interview with my wife and Heather Blackerby about the frustrations and fear of following God’s big plans for your life.

5.  I have decided to step down and let them preach every week b/c they did so good!

6.  Awestruck will be partnering with Starbucks on Huffman Mill Rd to help get James off the Bus next weekend!  Bring canned goods to church or just drop it off at Starbucks.

7.  We are also working with Wendover Hills Weslyan Church on Nov 23 @ 7pm for a huge concert and the cost of admission is supplies for our local area Homeless population.  (more details soon)

8.  The first member/partner/discovery (we don’t know what to call it yet?) is December the 7th right after service and I am pumped about getting it going

9.  The first event of the “Bring the Hope” Tour was incredible.  Layden, Banister, and Evan brought it and Josh Stegenga did a great job planning and speaking at the event.  I’m so proud of those guys.

10.  Yesterday might have been the greatest service in our short history as a church.  Tons of new visitors and a great spirit in the place.  Technically, everything went great and our stage is almost like we want it.  I love being the pastor of Awestruck.

Bring the Hope Tour Starts 11/5

11/5 @ 6:30 pmbring-the-hope-flyer

3815 Clifton Rd, Greensboro, NC  27407

Admission:  Free

His Scars to Our Scars is a movement bringing hope and love into the lives of people dealing with suicide and depression.  HSTOS was started almost a year ago by Josh Stegenga with a mission to let people know they are not alone in their struggles.  Tomorrow night (11/5) starts a new leg of the journey as they present the first ever “Bring the Hope” tour event.  The night includes music from Evan Blackerby, Bannister, and Layden.  Josh Stegenga will share his powerful story of loneliness and hurt, and how he found rescue in the love of Christ.  There will also be some touching testimonies from others that have been delivered from the sorrow and pain of depression and attempted suicide.

If you or someone you know struggles with depression or suicidal thoughts please join us tomorrow night and find healing in the wound.  If you are someone that could help support this ministry with prayer or finances, it will be a great opportunity to find out more details about HSTOS.  Admission is free, but a love offering will be taken to cover the cost of the event.  I hope to see you there!

1.  If I keep this up I’m gonna have to call this the Tuesday Download!

2.  Sunday at Awestruck was incredible!  I love the fact that we have new people every week.

3.  I would love it even more if everyone would show up on the same week?  🙂

4.  Brandon and Tanah (probably spelled that wrong?) led the music and it was amazing.

5.  I am working on a plan to get them to come to my house every morning and sing to me while I spend time with Jesus.  They flat brought us into the presence of God!

6.  This Sunday Layden will be back from their break and ready to rock the house again.

7.  Speaking of next Sunday, this might be one of the coolest things we ever do @ Awestruck.  You need to be there and hear my wife’s side of the give up everything and follow God story.  It is gonna be really powerful.

8.  More about Layden…Those guys are playing the first stop of the “Bring the Hope” tour Wednesday night (11/5) @ Clifton Road Baptist church.  7pm  I’m about to blog about it when I get done with this.

9.  On Sunday I made a quick, silly political comment while I was preaching and I think I might have offended some folks?  That’s why you don’t talk about politics, people don’t think it’s funny!  When I was done I said, “Please don’t try to hand me brochures on the way out to tell me who to vote for”…WELL, some friendly smart butt decided to put them on my windshield instead.  Thanks!  🙂

10.  One of the curtains from our backdrop fell down during worship revealing all the school’s stuff that we try to hide.  You want to take a guess who hung it?  That’s right, ME!  I just found a way to work it into a sermon example.

Week #2 was Double the Pleasure

I know that it was only our second week at Awestruck, but today was a milestone for our church.  The message has been planned for months.  I have known what I was going to preach today for a while, but God knew exactly who needed to be there.  We talked about how the Fender Benders in life add up and make us feel damaged and totaled, but God never sees our damage to be greater than our value.  He created us to do great things and nothing or no one could ever damage us beyond His purpose.  We had folks there today that needed to hear that encouragement!  I’m talking about people with big issues that needed to know that God is not done with them.  Some I know and others I have never met, but God positioned them in the right place at the right time today.  There were many teary eyed people leaving the building today because God was doing big things in their hearts.  It never ceases to amaze me how perfect God’s timing always is!  When we named this church Awestruck, I don’t believe we knew just how accurate that title was.  I can’t wait to see what God has in store for next week.
